History & Production: Sandalwood has been revered for centuries, originating from regions such as India, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Indian sandalwood (Santalum album), particularly from Mysore, is considered the most superior variety, known for its deep and rich scent. The essential oil is obtained through steam distillation of the mature heartwood, a process that preserves its aromatic properties. Due to overharvesting and high demand, sustainable practices and the cultivation of alternative sources, such as Australian sandalwood, have become more common.
