YLANG YLANG
Ylang ylang is a rich floral note from the flowers of Cananga odorata. Its rounded, warm character can combine creamy softness with brighter fruity or spicy facets; some materials also recall jasmine or neroli. It can give a floral bouquet fullness without needing to smell identical to either of those flowers. This is a flower note, distinct from citrus fruit or peel.
Natural ylang ylang oil is obtained by distilling the flowers with water or steam. Producers may collect different fractions during distillation, sold as Extra, I, II and III, or offer a complete oil combining the fractions. These materials do not all smell exactly alike. In perfume, ylang ylang can enrich flowers, soften woods or join warm accords. The note name alone does not specify an oil grade, natural content or how prominently it will appear in the finished composition.
