WOODY NOTES
Woods describes a broad range of wood-like smells in perfume, from the dry impression of pencil shavings to smooth, creamy or gently resinous textures. Cedarwood and sandalwood illustrate different parts of this range; the label does not identify a particular tree or a fixed blend. A woody perfume need not smell of smoke, damp forest or freshly cut timber.
Woody notes can give flowers a firmer outline, balance sweet accords or carry a composition on their own. Some come from distilled wood oils, while others are created with aroma materials or blends that suggest wood. Their texture may feel soft and close or more expansive, depending on the formula. Look at the accompanying notes to distinguish a fresh woody fragrance from a creamy floral, an amber composition or a smoky interpretation.
