WINE

Wine in perfume suggests fruit with a vinous character: a rounded, sometimes fermented or liquor-like impression beyond simple grape sweetness. It is a broad note. An interpretation may evoke bright white wine, richer red fruit or a drier woody setting, rather than one universal smell of wine.

Fruit and floral notes can highlight its juicier side, while woods may suggest the setting of an oak barrel. The barrel impression is a separate compositional possibility, not part of every wine note. Perfumers can build wine-like accords, and natural materials distilled from wine lees also exist; the note name alone does not disclose which approach is used. Nor does it prove that drinkable wine is present. Read the full composition to distinguish a fresh, tart interpretation from a fuller, sweeter one, without assuming a fixed note position or lasting power.
