VIOLET LEAVES
Violet leaves suggest cool, damp greenery in perfume, closer to crushed foliage than to a sweet, powdery flower. The impression can combine watery freshness with a darker vegetal texture. Depending on the material and composition, softer floral, woody, earthy or mossy shades may emerge beneath that green surface. It can give a floral perfume a leafy setting or bring a moist green contrast to warmer notes.
A natural violet leaf absolute is made from the leaves of Viola odorata. For its Egyptian material, IFF describes solvent extraction followed by purification with ethyl alcohol. This is a leaf extract, distinct from the ionone-based floral impression commonly called violet. A fragrance listing violet leaves may use the absolute or another construction of the effect; the note alone does not identify the ingredients or guarantee a particular origin.
