VELVIONE

Velvione is a Givaudan fragrance molecule in the macrocyclic musk family. Its character is musky and distinctly powdery, with an animalic facet: a warm, bodily suggestion within the musk impression. Givaudan describes it as a material that brings powdery volume and softness to fine fragrance, so its name should not be understood as meaning a barely detectable or purely creamy scent.

The molecule is different from a general velvet accord, which describes a texture without specifying an ingredient. Velvione is a manufactured material with a defined chemical identity. In a perfume it can broaden a musky background or soften the way other notes come together. The supplier’s measurements of persistence on test strips describe the ingredient under test conditions; they do not establish how long every perfume containing it will last on skin.
