TONKA BEAN (VENEZUELA)
Venezuelan tonka bean points to tonka associated with Venezuela, rather than a different kind of bean. A documented natural absolute comes from Dipteryx odorata. Hermitage Oils describes its Venezuelan material as combining milky, vanilla-like sweetness with powdery warmth, nutty touches and a drier hay-and-herb character. This is a profile of that material, not a rule that all Venezuelan tonka smells richer than tonka from elsewhere.
The contrast between creamy sweetness and dry vegetation gives the note several possible directions. In a gourmand composition the milky and nutty side may stand out; with aromatic companions, the hay-like aspect can become more noticeable. Natural absolutes are made by solvent extraction, but a note list does not reveal the exact material used. Origin alone cannot establish a perfume’s formula, strength or lasting power, so consider the surrounding notes as well as the country name.
