THYME
Thyme is an aromatic herb note with green freshness and a spicy edge. It can recall the living kitchen herb, with a drier woody impression as the scent develops. The effect is not always equally sharp: thyme materials vary, so a perfume can emphasise either gentler herbal sweetness or a more assertive green character.
Natural thyme oils are obtained by distillation, and suppliers offer different species and chemotypes. A chemotype describes a plant’s characteristic chemical profile, which helps explain why oils sharing the everyday name thyme need not smell identical. Eden Botanicals, for example, describes its linalool type as softer and faintly peppery, while its thymol type has stronger green impact. In a blend, thyme can add herbal definition to citrus, lavender or flowers. The note alone does not establish a medicinal benefit, a fixed formula or a guaranteed position in the fragrance.
