TANGERINE

Tangerine smells of sweet, freshly opened citrus with a tangy edge of peel. Its brightness can feel juicy rather than sharply sour, making it a useful clue for shoppers who enjoy fruit-led freshness. The note can enliven an opening without requiring the whole perfume to remain a citrus scent.

Natural tangerine essential oil can be cold-pressed from the fruit’s peel. Suppliers identify familiar examples as Citrus reticulata, within the mandarin group, while named varieties and further processing can produce different materials. Eden Botanicals describes its Dancy oil as fresh and zesty; dsm-firmenich’s distilled Cravo material emphasises ripe, pulpy fruit. These are examples, not a universal specification. A tangerine note does not identify a particular variety or guarantee natural oil, and it should not be confused with a tangerine blossom note.
