SNOWBELL FLOWER

Snowbell flower offers a soft floral impression that can smooth the edges of an aromatic or woody composition. Rather than assigning it a fixed jasmine or lily-of-the-valley smell, it is more useful to notice its role beside other notes: Ormonde Jayne describes snowbell and lavender bringing softness to a citrus and vetiver setting. A different blend may place it among rose and gentle woods.

The botanical name refers to flowers of Styrax trees, including Japanese snowbell, Styrax japonicus. The floral note should not be confused with a resin simply because both may be associated with the name Styrax. Construction varies: House of Enfleurage documents a snowbell flower tincture in one of its perfumes. It would therefore be misleading to describe every snowbell note as a synthetic reconstruction. The label alone does not specify the species, extraction method or complete formula.
