SEAWEED
Seaweed gives a marine perfume a more tangible shoreline character: green, mossy and briny, sometimes with earthy or leathery depth. It can suggest algae drying on a beach rather than only clean air above open water. Depending on the material and how it is used, the effect may be a quiet coastal shadow or a more assertive vegetal presence.
Natural seaweed absolutes exist. Lush describes a solvent-extracted material from bladderwrack, Fucus vesiculosus, with an intensely green, mossy smell. Other suppliers describe salty, leathery or slightly animalic facets in their materials, showing why seaweed is not a single uniformly light scent. A fragrance may use such an extract or another interpretation of the note. Its appearance in a note list does not identify the algae species, extraction method or sourcing of that perfume.
