History & Production: Rose Petal is generally an olfactory effect or accord rather than a distinct natural extract called “rose petal”, although genuine rose materials such as rose otto, rose absolute, rose water fractions, and extracts of Rosa damascena or Rosa centifolia may form part of its construction. Perfumers can enhance the freshly petaled impression with materials contributing rosy alcohols, geranium-like freshness, citrus brightness, watery-green facets, subtle fruitiness, violet nuances, and transparent musks. Important natural rose odorants include citronellol, geraniol, nerol, and phenethyl alcohol, while modern aroma materials allow the accord to become lighter and more diffusive than traditional concentrated rose extracts.
