ROCK ROSE / CISTUS LABDANUM
Rock rose and labdanum connect a Mediterranean shrub with its aromatic resin. In this fragrance context, the cistus theme suggests resinous amber warmth, with balsamic richness and possible woody facets. Labdanum absolute can give a sweet, substantial impression; “rock rose” should not lead you to expect the petal scent of a rose.
The names are related but do not identify one interchangeable extract. Cistus ladanifer produces the gum known as labdanum on its leaves and stems. Landema distinguishes extracts or distillates of the twigs, called cistus, from preparations of the gum, called labdanum. Extraction can therefore change the material’s character. This combined note label points to the botanical and resinous theme without specifying the preparation used in a perfume. Look for accompanying woods or sweeter amber notes to understand its setting.
