Black poplar bud absolute, from Populus nigra, is a documented perfumery material: Landema describes woody, resinous and slightly green facets, while LVNEA notes sweetness, a hay-like aspect and a labdanum-like undertone.

Landema produces its absolute by extracting the buds with a volatile solvent. This is one defined material within a broader tree-related note, not proof that every perfume listing poplar uses that extract or species. The combination of warm resin and green detail can help explain the note’s appeal in woody or ambery settings. Look for whether a composition emphasizes balsamic richness or fresher vegetation, rather than expecting poplar to behave like a dry cedarwood note or occupy a fixed place in the fragrance.
