POMELO

Pomelo in perfume suggests bright citrus with a balance of juicy sweetness and bitter zest. Its sharp, peel-like edge can bring definition to a fresh accord without reducing the fruit to simple sweetness. Natural oils from the peel of Citrus maxima do exist: Essential Citrus offers a Hirado Buntan pomelo oil and describes a bittersweet citrus character with a vegetal edge. That is one variety’s profile, not a rule for every pomelo note.

Perfumers can also interpret the theme within a broader citrus composition. Jo Loves describes its Pomelo as grapefruit-led citrus, with rose, vetiver, clove, patchouli and suede around the fruit. This demonstrates the difference between a note name and an ingredient specification. The label alone does not disclose which citrus oils or aroma materials are used, nor guarantee that pomelo will always smell softer than grapefruit.
