PEACH
Peach in perfume suggests ripe, juicy flesh with a soft, velvety feel. It can have a creamy roundness as well as fresh fruit sweetness, making it useful when a composition needs fullness rather than a sharp citrus effect. The peach note refers to an impression of the fruit, distinct from peach blossom or leaves.
Perfumers can construct that impression with an accord. Gamma-undecalactone, for example, is a fragrance material with creamy peach-like facets; it is one possible building block, not the definition of every peach note. The surrounding composition makes a large difference: honey and light flowers can emphasise succulent sweetness, while woods and spices can give the fruit a darker setting. Guerlain’s Mitsouko demonstrates the latter direction. Peach therefore does not automatically mean a sugary perfume, a fixed note position or actual fruit extract.
