OSMANTHUS
Osmanthus brings together flowers, dried-apricot sweetness and a distinctive leathery edge. Tea-like nuances can temper the fruit, giving the note a more textured character than a simple juicy peach impression. Its softer, sometimes creamy facets can sit beside a warmer, almost animalic undertone: an impression of leather rather than an indication of an animal ingredient.
Natural osmanthus absolute is made from the flowers of Osmanthus fragrans. IFF describes its Chinese material as solvent-extracted and then purified with ethyl alcohol, preserving a combination of fruity, floral, tea and leather impressions. In perfume, osmanthus can connect a floral bouquet to fruit or leather themes. Citrus may brighten its sweeter side, while woods can frame its drier facets. The note name does not establish that a particular absolute is present or that every fragrance will express all these nuances equally.
