NECTARINE

Nectarine suggests sweet, juicy fruit flesh with the rounded richness associated with peaches. In perfume, the emphasis is on ripeness and succulent fruit rather than a sharply zesty citrus effect. A nectarine impression can make a composition feel fuller and fruitier; the surrounding notes determine how fresh or sweet the result becomes.

The fruit is a smooth-skinned type of peach, not a separate citrus fruit. Its perfume interpretation need not come from the fruit itself. For example, Givaudan describes its synthetic material Nectaryl as smelling of nectarine, with peach, apricot and creamy fruity facets. That is one material available to a perfumer, not a standard recipe or proof that every fragrance listing nectarine contains it.
