MANDARIN (ITALY)
Mandarin suggests sweet citrus with the lively aroma released when the fruit is peeled. Its rounded, juicy impression can carry a soft floral edge, while a sharper zest keeps the sweetness from feeling syrupy. In perfume it can give flowers a fruity accent or introduce a fresh contrast to warm woods. The balance may lean towards ripe fruit or a greener, more tart peel, depending on the material and the composition.
Italian mandarin includes different harvest grades. IFF documents green Citrus reticulata from Sicily and Calabria, cold pressed from the peel of fruit picked before full ripeness. Eden Botanicals also offers an Italian red mandarin oil from mature peel, with a smoother, sweeter profile. The difference between those materials shows why origin alone cannot tell the whole scent story. The note name does not specify green or red oil, nor confirm a particular ingredient in every listed perfume.
