LILAC
Lilac suggests a flowering spring shrub, with floral sweetness that can carry a powdery, almost dusty softness and a hint of honey. In perfume, these facets need not appear in equal measure. A perfumer can emphasise the airy flower and green-garden impression, or keep more of the rounded sweetness for a fuller bouquet. Lilac is therefore not always a faint or weightless floral note.
The familiar garden lilac is Syringa vulgaris. Its scent serves as an inspiration for composed floral effects: Frédéric Malle, for example, describes its interpretation as a reworked lilac with the dusty, honeyed facets reduced. That illustrates how selectively a flower can be portrayed. The note name alone does not tell you the formula or prove the presence of a natural lilac extract.
