IROKO
Iroko in perfume is a wood-inspired note whose precise character depends on the composition. It points towards a woody impression rather than a standard formula with a guaranteed level of creaminess, spice or resin. Tiziana Terenzi places African iroko alongside larch and sandalwood in a woody structure accompanied by tobacco and vetiver. Those surrounding notes describe the setting, not the smell of iroko alone.
The botanical name Milicia excelsa is associated with iroko, a tropical African tree also called African teak. A perfume using the name need not contain wood from the tree: Blackbird explicitly says its Iroko fragrance does not. The note therefore cannot establish a natural extract, extraction method or particular synthetic ingredients. Its woody effect should be read in the context of the whole fragrance.
