FRANKINCENSE (OLIBANUM)
Frankincense, also called olibanum, can combine resinous warmth with woody, spicy and fresh citrus-like facets. A perfume may emphasise the bright side or a fuller balsamic character, meaning a rounded, resin-like warmth. It does not always smell dark or heavily smoky. The aroma of a distilled material and the smoke from burning resin are different references, even when both inspire incense-themed perfumes.
Olibanum is gum-resin collected from Boswellia trees. Perfumery materials include essential oils and resinoids, with scent varying by species and preparation. Eden Botanicals describes its Somali oil as citrus-bright over resinous, conifer-like and slightly peppery notes. Biolandes describes woody, spicy and mineral effects from its resinoid. These examples show the range within frankincense, rather than a fixed recipe or guaranteed duration. A listed note identifies an olfactory direction without proving which natural extract a perfume contains.
