HONEYSUCKLE
Honeysuckle in perfume evokes sweet flowers with honeyed accents. The effect is floral first: think of sweetness within a blossom rather than a separate spoonful of honey. A radiant interpretation can suggest flowers scenting the air, giving a composition a nectarous impression without necessarily turning it into a dessert-like fragrance.
Honeysuckles belong to the genus Lonicera, which includes different plants; not all forms are fragrant. The broad note name does not identify a particular species. Perfumers can also recreate the flower’s scent through an accord. Jo Malone London documents a headspace approach: the air around a flower is analysed, then its scented impression is reconstructed. This samples the smell released by the flower rather than distilling an oil from it. It is one documented approach, not a method implied by every honeysuckle note. The perfume’s overall balance determines the sweetness and floral fullness.
