HIBISCUS

Hibiscus in perfume is a floral idea with room for different interpretations. It can evoke warm, radiant petals, while a tea-inspired version may lean towards a fruitier floral impression. The name does not define one standard smell or identify a particular botanical species. It is most useful as a clue to the perfumer’s imagined flower or infusion.

Jo Malone London explicitly describes its red hibiscus note as an accord, a blend creating a chosen scent impression, with a sun-warmed floral character. Maison Crivelli takes hibiscus tea as inspiration in a composition that also includes rose and fruit notes. Those surrounding notes shape the result; they are not automatically facets of every hibiscus flower. Nor does hibiscus on a note list establish the presence of a natural flower extract.
