FIXOLIDE

Fixolide is a synthetic musk with a sweet, powdery character and a slight fruity nuance. It can give an accord a rounded musky warmth, with a texture closer to soft powder than to a sharp citrus or green note. The fruity facet is an undertone rather than the clear identity of a particular fruit.

Also known as Tonalide or musk tetralin, it belongs to the polycyclic musk family. This is a named aroma material, rather than animal musk or a botanical extract. Perfumers use it within wider compositions, so the surrounding notes determine whether its powdery sweetness stands out or blends into the background. The material’s character does not guarantee a fixed level of projection or lasting power in every perfume that lists it.
