CARAWAY

Caraway brings an aromatic, herbal spice impression, familiar from caraway-seasoned rye bread. Its character is linked to carvone, a constituent also found in dill oils. This gives a more specific reference than describing it only as warm spice: think of the distinctive fragrant seasoning, rather than the bread or a sweet baked accord.

The natural essential oil is steam-distilled from the dried ripe fruits of Carum carvi, commonly called caraway seeds. Its aromatic character can introduce a savoury culinary association into a perfume without making the whole composition smell like food. For a useful guide to the finished fragrance, consider how prominently that herbal spice appears among the other notes.
