BASIL
Basil brings a recognisable green herbal character, with a sweet-spiced side that can recall anise. The impression is of aromatic leaves rather than soft petals. Some materials feel especially fresh and green; others give more space to the sweeter spicy facets.
Perfumery basil oils can be obtained from the aerial parts of Ocimum basilicum, but varieties and oil profiles differ. A generic basil note should not be treated as a specification for one chemotype or production method. In fragrance, its interest is often the meeting of leafy freshness and spice. Look at the surrounding citrus, flowers or woods to judge whether that herbal accent is likely to feel brisk, rounded or dry.
